Your Rights as a Patient:

As a patient at Bekaa Hospital, you have the right to:

  1. Receive Respectful and Dignified Care: Be treated with courtesy, respect, and consideration for your personal values, beliefs, and cultural background, free from any discrimination based on age, gender, religion, race, nationality, disability, or financial status.
  2. Privacy and Confidentiality: Expect that all your medical information and records will be kept confidential. Your written permission will be obtained before information is shared with anyone not directly involved in your care. You have the right to decide whether to share or withhold information about your health status with family members or others.
  3. Receive Safe and High-Quality Care: Expect to receive competent, safe, and equitable medical and nursing care in an environment free from all forms of abuse, neglect, harassment, or exploitation.
  4. Informed Consent: Receive clear, comprehensive, and understandable information about your diagnosis, proposed treatment plan, the purpose of any tests or procedures, potential benefits, risks, alternatives (including no treatment), and expected outcomes. You have the right to ask questions and have them answered before making decisions about your care.
  5. Accept or Refuse Treatment: Accept or refuse any proposed treatment, to the extent permitted by the Lebanese law. You must be informed of the potential consequences of such refusal.
  6. Know Your Healthcare Team: Be informed of the names, professional status, and roles of all healthcare professionals, including students, involved in your care.
  7. Seek a Second Opinion: Request a second medical opinion regarding your diagnosis or treatment plan.
  8. Pain Management: Receive appropriate assessment and effective management of your pain.
  9. Continuity of Care: Expect reasonable continuity of care, including being informed of realistic care options upon discharge and participating in the discharge planning process. You have the right to receive clear discharge instructions, including your home treatment plan and medication details.
  10. Access to Medical Records: Access information contained in your medical records within a reasonable timeframe, as permitted by hospital policy and Lebanese law.
  11. Express Concerns and Complaints: Voice concerns, complaints, or suggestions regarding the quality of care or services received without fear of reprisal. You have the right to be informed about the hospital’s mechanism for resolving such issues.
  12. Financial Information: Be informed of the approximate cost of your care and hospital charges before services are provided, and receive an explanation of your bill.
  13. Patient Representation: Appoint a representative to make healthcare decisions on your behalf if you are unable to do so, and to be notified promptly of your admission.
  14. Leave Against Medical Advice: Leave the hospital against medical advice, to the extent permitted by Lebanese law, after acknowledging and accepting full responsibility for this decision and its potential consequences.
  15. Protection of Valuables: Be informed about the hospital’s policy regarding personal belongings and valuables.

Your Responsibilities as a Patient:

As a patient at Bekaa Hospital, you have the responsibility to:

  1. Provide Accurate Information: Provide complete and accurate information about your medical history, including current medications (prescription and over-the-counter), allergies, previous surgeries, and any changes in your health status to your healthcare team.
  2. Ask Questions: Ask questions when you do not understand the information provided about your condition, treatment, or what is expected of you.
  3. Follow Treatment Plans: Follow the agreed-upon treatment plan and instructions recommended by your physician and other healthcare providers. Accept the consequences if you refuse treatment or do not follow the prescribed plan of care.
  4. Adhere to Hospital Policies: Abide by all hospital rules and regulations. This includes maintaining a quiet environment, respecting visiting hours, and strictly observing our no-smoking policy throughout the entire hospital premises, including outdoor areas.
  5. Show Respect: Treat all healthcare professionals, staff, other patients, and visitors with respect and courtesy. Verbal or physical threats and disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.
  6. Be Considerate of Others: Respect the privacy and rights of other patients, including their need for a quiet and peaceful healing environment.
  7. Safeguard Personal Property: Be responsible for your personal belongings and valuables.
  8. Meet Financial Obligations: Fulfill your financial obligations for the care received in a timely manner, or ensure that your insurance or guarantor information is accurate and complete. It is your responsibility to obtain all necessary documents and approvals from your guarantor/insurance provider prior to or during your stay to facilitate the billing and approval processes.
  9. Report Changes: Immediately inform your doctor or nurse of any unexpected changes in your health or any new or uncontrolled pain during your stay.
  10. Timely Appointments: Arrive on time for appointments and notify the hospital as soon as possible if you are unable to attend.
  11. No Filming/Recording: Refrain from photography, filming, or recording of staff, other patients, or the hospital’s environment without explicit written consent.
